What Does Falafel Taste Like?

    What Does Falafel Taste Like?

Every time I mention Sweden, people tell me 'Oooh, you absolutely MUST try some Falafel' - I've googled it, and it seems it is vegetarian, but it also sounds pretty bland and boring.

Does anyone here know what it tastes like, and what kind of toppings you can have with it?  I don't mind trying new foods, but I'm always a bit suspicious, and since that dodgy food seller in Hercules was called Falafel it's got me worried *g*.

    Any comments much appreciated :)

I am not sure what to compare it to but it's not bad at all.  What puzzles me, though, is why would people think about Falafel when you mention Sweden.  It's a traditional Middle Eastern food.  Hmm

I was thinking the same thing myself! Falafel I have seen served in Greek and Italian places, but never has it been associated (in my travels) with Sweden.

Anyway, I like the dish personally. I have had it most often with a tahini topping, with lemon juice. I don't find it bland, if prepared well.

Totally agree with you about lemon and tahini.  It's a perfect combination

Sweden?  Wow, that one surprised me.  Smile  It's usually found in places like Morocco or Egypt.

I can't really answer about the flavor, but I always thought like you and concluded it sounded rather

bland so I haven't tried it.

I've only had it prepared in restaurants in Toronto and I enjoyed it, but I'm not sure how authentic the preparation was.

I was also surprised at the mention of Sweden.
